About the Event
Xian Zhang is one of the few internationally acclaimed female conductors, and also one of few Chinese conductors with an international reputation. She will conduct two famous American works – Gershwin’s Symphonic Picture Porgy and Bess and Ferde Grofé’s Grand Canyon Suite, as well as the traditional Chinese work The Defeated Emperor arranged by the Pulitzer‐prize‐winning Chinese‐American composer Zhou Long.
Practical Information
As Asia’s oldest orchestra, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra brought Western classical music to China. Today, it remains a world‐class orchestra which attracts internationally renowned artists while it still retains its Chinese essence: the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra is a beacon of culture and arts for the city of Shanghai.
