Capturing the beauty of their home country was a major concern for both Bedřich Smetana and Béla Bartók. The latter did not choose the path of patriotic references but used traditional forms in his tonal language. For example, he incorporated the Hungarian verbunkos into his second violin concerto, thereby emphasizing his heritage. Bedřich Smetana created one of the most beautiful declarations of love ever written for his Bohemian homeland when he composed his six symphonic poems «My Fatherland».
