Schubert's "Great" Symphony: Saturday Matinée

Hear Schubert's C major symphony, and a new work by Thomas Larcher.

Larcher is an Austrian composer with a long and warm relationship with the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest and the Concertgebouw's Saturday Matinée series. His latest work for the series includes a part for baritone, sung by Matthias Goerne.

Schubert's last symphony, in C major, is known as the "Great", and it is not difficult to hear why. Under the baton of Jaap van Zweden, formerly the orchestra's music director, it will surely once again earn its nickname.
