Rutter Requiem: Stephansdom in Vienna

About the Event

Hear John Rutter's "Requiem" interpreted by the Monteverdi Chor Budapest and the California Redwood Chorale.

John Rutter's "Requiem" performed with piano, cello, and oboe will be the highlight of this evening's performance. The English composer and choir master John Rutter composed a requiem which brilliantly connects classical music and modern melodies. As in most new requiem versions, the composer did not use the complete liturgical text of the Latin death mass, but only selected parts, which he complemented with English psalms.

The Rutter Requiem was first staged on October 13th, 1985 in Dallas, Texas. Today, 30 years later, the California Redwood Chorale and the Hungarian Monteverdi Choir Budapest present this popular choral piece in the Stephansdom in Vienna. In addition to Rutter's masterpiece, other sacred pieces and works by Beethoven will be part of the program.

Please note that the stage is not directly visible from seats in category 2.
