Roth, Capuçon & Les Siècles: Dukas & Dutilleux

About the Event

The last movement of Beethoven's final string quartet is inscribed with the question 'Must it be?'. The musical response to the question is: 'It must be!' Dutilleux had these words in mind when composing his 'Muss es sein?', which will receive its French premiere at the outset of this concert.

In addition to Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, which shares the fateful nature of the last quartet, Dutilleux's classic Métaboles and Tout un monde lointain (A Whole Distant World) will be performed; Dukas's magical The Sorcerer's Apprentice closes the evening.
