Romeo & Juliette: Deutsche Oper Berlin

About the Event

Director and choreographer Sasha Waltz brings Berlioz's 'Dramatic Symphony' to the stage of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Berlioz's 'symphonie dramatique' owed much to Beethoven but also pushed the boundaries of staged drama. Wagner was so impressed, he sent Berlioz the published score of 'Tristan und Isolde' with an inscription to the 'great and dear' composer of 'Romeo et Juliette'.

Shakespeare's famous story is told through picturesque orchestral writing, and features a dramatic choral finale.
