Paris Opera Ballet: L'Anatomie de la Sensation

About the Event

Inspired by the work of Francis Bacon, Wayne McGregor created L'Anatomie de la Sensation for the Paris Opera Ballet. This strong and profoundly original piece stands out as one of the major works presented this season.

Testing and pushing the physical possibilities of his performers to the limit, Wayne McGregor finds an echo of his own choreographic quest in the artist's work. McGregor draws on the forms, colors, and textures of Bacon's paintings to move beyond images and explore the expressive potential of the human body.

Composer Mark Anthony Turnage's "Blood on the Floor" also takes its title from a Bacon painting. Ensemble Intercomporain and four jazz soloists accompany the dancers in a space structured by the minimalist architect John Pawson.
