The Organ Concerts at the St. Francis of Assisi Church (Knights of the Cross) in Prague offer a coherent programme of music in the space of one hour. A selection of composers such as Schubert, Gounod, Mascagni, Mozart, Bach, Händel, Dvořák, Franck, and Bizet will be presented in alternating programmes.
Besides compositions of world renowned masters of the baroque and classical periods, music by Czech composers will be presented in this concert series. The rich sound of the organ and the combination with solo instruments or voices will astound the listener. Usually, three artists perform at the concerts - soloists of the prominent Czech Opera and Orchestra ensembles, pedagogues of the Academy of Music and Drama and of Prague conservatory.
Flourishes of welcome performed by two trumpeters in stylized costumes have become a traditional surprise for our listeners, and the heraldic trumpets are played on the staircase of the Church for thirty minutes before the beginning of every concert!
