Narek Hakhnazaryan & Oxana Shevchenko: Sapienza University of Rome

About the Event

Narek Hakhnazaryan (cello) and Oxana Shevchenko (piano) perform music by Fauré, Debussy, Massenet, Saint‐Saëns and Chopin.

In 2011, at the age of 23, Narek Hakhnazaryan won the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and a few months later made his Roman debut at the IUC: it was easy to predict a great future for him and in fact within a few years he performed all over the world with the most important orchestras and in recitals, confirming internationally as one of the most important cellists of his generation. The Washington Post has written about him: 'He is a phenomenal cellist destined for a stellar career' and the Los Angeles Times: 'his mastery of the instrument is extraordinary'. He plays French music between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with masterpieces such as Debussy's Sonata, and concludes with Chopin's Sonata, the most important work he dedicated to an instrument other than the piano.
