Michael Schønwandt, Radek Baborák, Tonkünstler‐Orchester Niederösterreich

About the Event

Michael Schønwandt conducts the hornist Radek Baborák and the Tonkünstler‐Orchester Niederösterreich.

Benjamin Britten and Edward Elgar share the spotlight with an early stroke of genius by Richard Strauss: his first horn concerto, which the young composer wrote for his father at the age of 18, counts among the few solo concertos for this instrument. Edward Elgar’s mysterious Enigma Variations and Benjamin Britten’s monumental Sinfonia da Requiem not only bestow the programme with a symphonic touch – the works also provide an insight into the aesthetics of British music, which constitutes a fascinating contrast to Richard Strauss’ tonal world.
