Mahler's 3rd Symphony, Gewandhausorchester: Musikfest Berlin
About the Event
The world‐famous Leipzig orchestra visits Berlin to perform Mahler's Third Symphony.
“I call it a Symphony, but that is actually incorrect as it in no way follows a conventional format”, wrote Mahler about his Third. Two of the most famous moments in this monumental work are the solo posthorn passages in the third movement, played “as if from a distance”.
Due to a broken arm, Riccardo Chailly will not conduct this concert. He is replaced by the renowned of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Alan Gilbert.
