Le Nozze di Figaro: Finnish National Opera

About the Event

Le nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro) brought the house down in Mozart's time and to this day remains one of the most popular and most enjoyable operas of all time.

Marcellina calls in an old debt in order to get married to Figaro, who is engaged to Susanna, who is lusted after by the Count, whose wife still loves him but is the object of Cherubino's affections… A tangled web of relationships set to one of Mozart's most brilliant scores produces a timeless comedy of human desires and emotions. The Marriage of Figaro is a perfect blend of text and music and a masterpiece in its genre.

Behind the farce and the wonderful music there are serious social issues about the nobility and their servants. In this fresh new production, clashes between social classes and genders are explored jokingly but incisively. The sets and costumes echo Mozart's era.

Performed in Italian, surtitles in Finnish, Swedish and English.
