About the Event

After its 1769 premiere in Hamburg, the sacred cantata The Israelites in the Desert (later referred to as an oratorio due to its vast dimensions) was immediately acclaimed; Gluck conducted it in 1777 in Vienna, and the composer reedited the work in order for it to be appropriate not just for 'solemn occasions' but also for use in any church, regardless of denomination.

C.P.E. Bach universalized the suffering and desperation of the Israelites traversing the desert; the unparalleled Jordi Savall, Le Concert des Nations, and La Capella Reial de Catalunya will share the experience with their fortunate audience.
