Hänsel und Gretel: Paris Opera
About the Event
Experience the magic of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel: music as deep as the lakes of Germanic legends but also strangely familiar.
Engelbert Humperdinck became Richard Wagner’s assistant in Bayreuth at the age of 27. Two years later, the Master died, leaving his disciple 'incomplete'. He traveled throughout Europe, eventually becoming a renowned teacher himself. Ten years later, in Weimar, Humperdinck completed his masterpiece, Hansel and Gretel, based on the Grimm brothers’ fairy tale. The opera premiered at Christmas under the enthusiastic baton of Richard Strauss.
