Soprano Christine Schäfer sings Richard Strauss' final and beautiful orchestral songs.

“Preventing the piano sound from fading away”, wrote Lachenmann in 1986, is comparable to a “pipe dream to overcome gravity.” “Ausklang” is the ambiguous title of his Music for Piano with Orchestra. Reger’s “Fantasy and Fugue“ for the Organ is dedicated to Strauss and, like the latter’s “Four Last Songs”, was composed at the end of a highly productive career.
