Ensemble KNM Berlin & Vocalconsort Berlin: Philip Glass

About the Event

Engage both eyes and ears with the dramatic sensory dialogue of The Photographer, a mixed‐media musical created in 1982 by Philip Glass. The composer was inspired by American photographer Eadweard Muybridge (1830‐1904), whose work on capturing movement paved the way for the invention of motion pictures.

In the brief first act, Glass artfully interprets Muybridge's acquittal on the charge of murdering his wife’s lover. Projections of Muybridge’s photography accompany the second act, a concerto for violin, followed by a dance on the composer’s hypnotic, orchestral loops in the final act.
