Death in Venice: Hamburg Ballet, Teatro Real in Madrid
About the Event
Hamburg Ballet performs Tod in Venedig, a free adaptation by world‐famed choreographer John Neumeier of Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice.
In this ballet, based on the narrative that also fascinated creators like Visconti and Britten, the character Aschenbach is reincarnated as a prestigious choreographer in crisis. Divided into ten scenes, it uses the music of Bach and Wagner to illustrate Aschenbach’s journey from art to life… and death.
