Danube Symphony Orchestra & Cimbalom Show

About the Event

The Danube Symphony Orchestra presents in their Cimbalom Show great works by Mozart, Brahms, Beethoven, Liszt, Bach, Albinoni, Tchaikovsky, and Gershwin at the Danube Palace in Budapest!

The Danube Symphony Orchestra has a long concert tradition, dating back to 1961, and performs the most famous classical melodies combined with the typical Hungarian instrument the "Cimbalom" (concert hammer dulcimer). This instrument is played primarily with beaters. It is equipped with a heavy frame for more dynamic power and added many strings courses for an extended range of sounds and a damper pedal to allow more dynamic control.

At times of the Austrian‐Hungarian monarchy, it was the tradition that the noble families' children had to learn the cimbalom instead of the piano. Nowadays, it is a unique opportunity to hear the most popular masterpieces of classical music interpreteted by cimbalom and the Danube Symphonic Orchestra in a way — which can be enjoyed only in Hungary!
