Brahms with Le Chœur de Paris at Basilique Sainte Clotilde

About the Event

An exceptional event: a candlelight concert, an exceptional and rare program. Brahms in all its strength and expressive beauty: The Requiem — the so‐called London version of two pianos and choir — The Rapsodie for Alto and Men's Choir and The Song of Destiny, three Brahmsian nuggets written almost at the same time.

A myriad of real candles will highlight the clean lines of the Basilica of Sainte Clotilde in Paris. In the warmth of the small flames the feelings that the Requiem embodies are overwhelming: an exceptional sound and expressive fusion between the text and the music, the choirs and the 2 pianos, the soloists and the choirs, the musicians and the public.

The accompaniment to two pianos is not a reduction of the Requiem. This is its original version, a creative reinterpretation that only a piano virtuoso like Brahms could do, and that only high quality pianists can perform. Till Aly, an excellent pianist, will direct the Paris Choir from his piano, which makes this project unique.

The Rapsody for Alto and Men's Choir is also a moment of great emotional intensity, of which only Brahms has the secret. A rarely given work, which requires both flawless vocal technique and a particular musical sensitivity due to the palette of colors and feelings expressed.
Schicksalslied is in the same line of Brahmsian spirituality, upsetting and soothing at the same time.

With this concert the Choeur de Paris wishes to offer the public a new key to reading music through the language of light and shadow, sublime music in a sublimated place, a unique moment of magic, reflection and musical happiness
