Ariadne auf Naxos: Paris Opera

About the Event

Karita Mattila returns to the Paris Opera in one of the pinnacles of 20th century opera. Michael Schønwandt conducts Laurent Pelly's signature production of Ariadne auf Naxos.

RIchard Strauss' bold masterpiece on a libretto by Hugo von Hoffmannsthal begins with a long prologue that shows the process of artistic creation at work. A one‐act opera follows, in which the serious and the comic mingle with heady freedom. More than an illustration of the mixing of styles, Ariadne auf Naxos is its radiant embodiment.
