ABOUT THE EVENT
Enjoy the concert "Women with Percussion" featuring Sara and Maika Gómez (txalaparta) at the Palace of Arts in Budapest.
Sara and Maika Gómez, world-famous players of the txalaparta (pronounced chalaparta) a Basque percussion instrument, have given over 400 concerts worldwide. It adds to the special atmosphere of their performances that this rugged, masculine music is played by two fragile young women.
The instrument originally consisted of large wooden boards, sounded with thick beaters held in a special way. Txalaparta, the music (an ancient genre we have been introduced to by the Amadinda Percussion Group) is now often played on boards of different woods and sizes (which makes it possible to play melodies), and instruments made of metal or stone are also available. The performance of the Ttukunak duo promises to be a rare experience.
