About the event
The Vienna Mozart Orchestra performs with internationally renowned vocalists and instrumentalists in Vienna's most extraordinary concert halls: the Vienna State Opera, Musikverein Golden Hall, Hofburg (Imperial Palace) and the Vienna Konzerthaus. The Vienna Mozart Orchestra was founded in 1986 by members of the best and most important Viennese orchestras and internationally acclaimed chamber music ensembles. The artists share the aim of preserving the musical tradition and cultural heritage of Vienna by dedicating themselves to the cultivation and presentation of the symphonic chamber music of the Viennese Classical Period. As the name Vienna Mozart Orchestra implies, the 30 musicians of this ensemble have devoted themselves to the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the most accomplished representative of the period who, although born in Salzburg, found his home in Vienna. The orchestra's repertoire includes the complete symphonies of Mozart and a wide variety of his instrumental concertos (for violin, piano and winds) as well as selected arias and duets from his most famous operas.
The Vienna Mozart Orchestra plays in magnificent historical costumes and wigs to create a special atmosphere in the venues Vienna Musikverein, with its world-famous Golden Hall (venue of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's New Year's Eve concert which is televised worldwide), the prestigious Vienna Konzerthaus, the Vienna State Opera and the Imperial Palace (Vienna Hofburg).
In keeping with the tradition of the "musical academies", as Vienna concerts were known in Mozart's time, the audience enjoys single movements from symphonies and solo concertos, as well as operatic overtures, arias and duets from especially popular and well known works. The Vienna Mozart Concerts even have something for Strauss lovers, with performances often including the most impressive pieces of the Strauss Dynasty, such as "The Blue Danube Waltz" or "The Radetzky March".
With four weekly performances from May through October every year, the Vienna Mozart Concerts are truly the best choice for high quality musical entertainment in Vienna. You can be absolutely sure to enjoy the Vienna Mozart Orchestra and the best of Mozart and Strauss!
