Grzegorz Nowak conducts violinist Nemanja Radulovic and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a celebration of the music of Tchaikovsky.

Even though Tchaikovsky’s musical output consisted of many romantic and memorable orchestral works, his equally well-crafted orchestral opera scores are often less well-remembered. The Polonaise from his opera "Eugene Onegin" is a fine example of his gift for this genre and is a perfect opener to this concert. His Violin Concerto was dismissed and regarded as unplayable and awkward; the Concerto’s dedicatee even refused to perform the work. Tchaikovsky thankfully stuck to his laurels and this Concerto has become a firm favourite for the concert platform. Though Tchaikovsky was experiencing great emotional pain while writing his 'Pathétique' Symphony, it arguably still remains his most dramatic and inspired work.
