About 'Estonian National Opera'
The "Estonia" theater has had several names during history, but since 1998 it bears the name The Estonian National Opera and operates as a body governed by public law according to the National Opera Law passed in 1997 (and amended in 2002) in the Republic of Estonia.
On March 9, 1944 the theater and concert house was razed to the ground by the air raids. Until the theater house was reopened in 1947, productions were staged in the cinema "Gloria Palace" (today the home of the Russian Drama Theater in Tallinn).
Since 1994, the theater is managed by the general manager Paul Himma, who has represented the Estonian National Opera since November 2004 in the European opera theater and festival organization Opera Europa.
