About 'Roseninsel'

The Rose Island at the Lake Starnberg used to belong to King Ludwig's II of Bavaria royal villa. The landscape architect Peter Joseph Lenné and engineer Franz Jakob Kreuter created a small garden and a villa, which is called casino.

Frequent guests on the island were the composer Richard Wagner, Prince Paul of Thurn and Taxis, Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Czarina Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Today, the villa is a small museum and open to the general public. In the summer, concerts of classical music are performed on the island.
