Russian Impressions
About the Event
Under the direction of the Guest Music Director Michail Jurowski, the Tonkünstler and pianist Alexander Markovich follow the trail of music that was mostly created from "Russian impressions" with works by Balakirev, Dvorák and Tchaikovsky.
The immense vastness of Russia inspired composers far beyond the country’s borders. It should be noted that music was only part of the fascinating world of sound which the composers used when trying to attain the specific "sound" of their home country. Balakirev was the most grounded of the featured composers, Tchaikovsky was the one who made Russian music internationally famous. And Antonín Dvořák lent his characteristic voice to his beloved Bohemia in an inimitable way.
