In unison with the unstoppable blossoming of nature in the change of season, two works are on the agenda that focus on spring in extraordinarily contrasting ways. Robert Schumann wrote his First Symphony in only four days, "in a fiery hour", creating a happy, life-affirming piece. Due to its disturbingly primitive, even barbaric subject, the first performance of Igor Stravinsky’s ballet music to "The Rite of Spring" turned into a historic scandal – the work itself has become a classic of orchestral music.
