ABOUT THE EVENT

The orchestra of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) will be performing its first collaboration with the OBC during the official L’Auditori season.

This is a highly engaging project that enables networks to be established between students and the professional world. The two orchestras will be performing a programme of great works, including Mozart's Symphony no. 38 and Shostakovich's Symphony no. 5. The work by Shostakovich is an open response to the critiques he received following the premiere of his exceptional opera, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. With great sense of irony, the composer leaves a strong autobiographical touch in response to the atmosphere of oppression inflicted by Stalin's regime. Mozart completed his Symphony no. 38 “Prague” in Vienna, despite the fact that this famous symphony premiered in Prague. Although he does not use the clarinet as one of the orchestral elements yet, the work already reveals the great personality of the mature Mozart.

Experience this richly moving programme at the Auditori in Barcelona.
