About the event
The MR Symphonics play Schoenberg, Haydn and Beethoven at the Budapest Festival 2009 (conductor: Zoltán Peskó)!"The negative hero of the concert is the cursed, defeated and exiled Napoleon"
Schoenberg shows in Napoleon the prototype of 20th century dictators, while Haydn's Nelson mass made the victorious admiral part of music history (although it was written on the occasion of the victory at the renowned battle of Abukir Bay). Also Beethoven was influenced by the historical figure Napoleon - he originally dedicated his third symphony to Napoleon the consul, but when the Corsican became emperor he crossed out the dedication.
The conductor for the concert will be the excellent Zoltán Peskó, who conducted the very successful performance of Pfitzner’s opera Palestrina at the last Spring Festival 2008.
