PROGRAMME

Mahler, Gustav:
Das Lied Von Der Erde
(Programme is subject to change)

ABOUT THE EVENT

Enjoy the last concert of the OBC season with tenor Donald Litaker and baritone Christian Gerhaher in a wonderful performance of Das Lied Von Der Erde by Gustav Mahler.

The OBC and its conductor Pablo González close the season with "Das Lied von der Erde" by Gustav Mahler; the work that opened the cycle which began last season based on the symphonic Lieder of this Bohemian composer. "Das Lied von der Erde" may have been Mahler's ninth symphony, but the composer wanted to cheat destiny, worried about the "curse" of the ninth symphony that composers such as Beethoven, Schubert and Bruckner were unable to overcome, so he removed its numbering.

"Das Lied von der Erde" is based on Chinese poems translated by Hans Bethge. These Chinese verses consoled Mahler for the pain that he felt at the impassive presence of death, which he reflected in such captivating music that entrances listeners with sound. Renowned singers with such highly acclaimed international careers, Donald Litaker and Christian Gerhaher, add the golden touch to the season.

Experience this richly moving programme at the Auditori in Barcelona.
