Klavierduo Kutrowatz, Soloist
It was their grandparents` house where Eduard and Johannes Kutrowatz first came across the piano. Later on different teachers taught them various instruments. Both Eduard and Johannes studied at the Joseph-Haydn Conservatory in Eisenstadt (piano with Uwe Wolff) before taking up degree courses at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Vienna. Johannes majored in piano and clarinet (with Peter Schmidl) as well as conducting (with Karl Österreicher), Eduard in percussion instruments (with Richard Hochrainer and Walter Veigl). The brothers` mutual teacher Renate Kramer-Preisenhammer initially encouraged their interest in original literature for four-handed piano and two pianos.

The year 1986, when they won an award in the Italian town of Stresa in the category “piano-duo”, should mark the beginning of their career as internationally renowned musicians. Numerous other awards should follow. Among them, for both Eduard and Johannes, the Kulturförderpreis (culture promotion award) from Austria`s Burgenland province, the music award from the “Theodor Kery Trust”, the “Erich Schenk Award” from the Viennese Mozart Society as well as a the Großes Ehrenzeichen (grand decoration) from Burgenland province. On top of that Johannes won a prize at the international Schubert contest in Graz.
