L´Inconorazione di Poppea - Claudio Monteverdi
ABOUT THE EVENT
Baroque music expert William Christie directs this production of The Coronation of Poppea by Claudio Monteverdi, who introduced the genre of opera as we know it today.
Sabina Poppea was one of the most celebrated courtesans of antiquity. Her luxuriant nature was as legendary as her ambition, which led her to an unfortunate end. The opera's central theme is the triumph of the love betweeen Nero and Poppea, even at the expense of virtue.
This coproduction of the Teatro Real with the Teatro La Fenice Venice ends the presentation of the Monteverdian trilogy, offered for the first time in Spain as a cycle, with staging by Pier Luigi Pizzi.
