"Smetana in Minor" - this was how the writer and composer Max Brod described Janacek's "Jenufa", when it was premiered in 1904. Since then, the opera belongs to one of the greatest and popular music theatre piece of the 20th century.

Jenufa is the first of Janacek's operas in which his distinctive style as a composer can clearly be heard. The opera is based on the playwright by Gabriela Preissova and known for its unsentimental realism - a grim story of infanticide and redemption!
