About the event 'Hungarian Folklore Performance, Dinner & Cruise'


Enjoy a very special evening with one of the best Hungarian Folk Ensembles in Budapest. You will experience a performance by either the "Hungarian State Folk Ensemble", the "Danube Folk Ensemble" or the "Rajkó Folk Ensemble". After the great show, you are invited to a Dinner & Cruise® on the Danube, with traditional Hungarian and European style food!

The ensembles have a long tradition - founded in 1951, 1957 and 1952 - and perform all around the country and abroad. Each ensemble consists of 30 artists, and their choreography is based on authentic dances. Some were collected in isolated villages and date back hundreds of years. The performances offer a broad view of the music, dance and costume heritage of Hungary and the Hungarian-inhabited areas.

With their very successful shows, the ensembles have toured  throughout Hungary, Europe, North and South America, Australia and the Far East, fascinating audiences everywhere.

On the cruise, you will enjoy the romantic atmosphere of Budapest and an excellent warm dinner buffet - prepared by Hungary’s only one Gault Millau rated chefs, Klöter Gregor - surrounded by the illumination of the Danube metropolis. By romantic candlelight you can celebrate a wonderful night in Budapest.

Hostesses will accompany you to the ship's landing stage after the performance. The journey lasts c. 90 minutes, and the ships are equipped with air-conditioning.

Danube Folklore Ensemble

, Ensemble
The Danube Folk Ensemble is one of the most popular professional groups in Hungary and its members are excellent dancers and musicians of traditional folk music and dances. The ensemble performs original dances with Hungarian folk rhythm, dynamic and style, and creates innovative dance-theatre pieces. They gives over one hundred performances eachyear, including weekly shows at the Duna Palota and folklore and dance-theatre performances in theatres of Budapest and all over the country. Besides presenting its own repertoire, the ensemble has participated in various theatre productions such as Janos Vitez - a musical tale, King Stephen, Attila - rock operas and the opera Dozsa György. Over the past years, they have been establishing a unique performance style under the artistic director Zsolt Juhasz.

Hungarian State Folk Ensemble

The Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, regarded as one of the best in Hungary, was established in 1951. It presents authentic folk music and therefore preserves the unique Hungarian folk dances and traditional costumes of Hungarian-inhabited areas in their performances. The ensemble consists of two orchestras and one dance ensemble - the Gipsy and the Folk Orchestra. In the last years, the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble has revitalised the culture of the Hungarian people, and their rich and colourful repertoire entitled the ensemble to be regarded as one of the top touring groups in the world. In earlier times, Hungarian folk music has inspired Liszt, Bartók and Kodály, whose compositions will be also performed by the Folk Orchestra and the world-famous Gipsy Orchestra in their concerts.

Rajko Folkensemble

The world famous Rajko Orchestra has been founded in 1952 and since then offers a unique musical experience. Their repertoire covers many genres from classical to folk music, and from operettas to folklore dances.The great achievements of the Rajkó Orchestra include highly succesful tour throughout Europe, North and South America, Australia, and the Far East, where they have repeatedly excited and thrilled audiences. They have frequently appreared on national television and radio and also have number of critically acclaimed recordings. The beauty of their uniqe music and the high level of their performing art has made their Orchestra the most significant Gipsy Orchestra of Hungary.
