ABOUT THE EVENT
The Erdődy Chamber Orchestra performs works by Karłowicz, Lajtha, Weiner, and György Orbán at the Budapest Spring Festival 2012.
Ever since its foundation in 1994, the Erdődy Chamber Orchestra has been conducting a voyage of discovery. They rescue old works and composers from oblivion, and encourage the birth of new pieces. For their first album, orchestra leader Zsolt Szefcsik selected from the works of Georg Druschetzky, a Czech composer who served the Hungarian aristocracy in Buda. The orchestra was the first in the world to record Michael Haydn’s Missa Sancta Theresiae and Te Deum, and their Hummel CD was also widely commended. These recordings have earned praise and awards from the most prestigious European musical journals (Le Monde de la Musique, Klassik Heute, Fono Forum, Pizzicato).
Their concert at the Festival promises new discoveries, with a piece by Mieczysław Karłowicz (1876–1909), a Polish composer who died young in a mountaineering accident, and the compositions of Weiner and Lajtha. The programme also includes a world premiere.
