Norrington, Sir Roger, Conductor
Roger Norrington came from a musical family in Oxford, England and played the violin and sang from a young age. He studied History at Westminster School, and English Literature at Cambridge University, where he was a choral scholar. Several years’ wide experience of top class amateur music making, while working as a publisher of scholarly books, ended with a return to musical studies at the Royal College of Music in London and the start of his professional career as a singer and conductor.

The Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin is an orchestra based in Berlin, Germany. It was founded in 1946 by American occupation forces as the RIAS-Symphonie-Orchester (RIAS being an acronym for "Rundfunk im amerikanischen Sektor" / "Radio In the American Sector"). It was also known as the American Sector Symphony Orchestra. The first principal conductor was Ferenc Fricsay. In 1956 the orchestra was renamed the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra (Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin). In 1993 the orchestra took on its present name.
