About the event 'Charles Dutoit, Julia Fischer & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra'

Under the baton of Charles Dutoit, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and violinist Julia Fischer perform works by Beethoven and Richard Strauss in London's Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre.

It is hard to believe that Beethoven's brilliant Violin Concerto was not a great success during the composer's lifetime. Now established as one of the major works in the repertoire, the Concerto is bursting with vigorous melodies and elegant exchanges between soloist and orchestra.

Richard Strauss takes us on an epic journey in 'A Hero's Life', which sparked controversy when it was suggested that the work was autobiographical - that Strauss was portraying himself as the 'hero'! Whether or not this was the case, Strauss paints a vivid picture of love, conflict and peace in this ravishing orchestral tour de force.
