Budapest Festival: Lajtha & Poulenc
About the event 'Budapest Festival: Lajtha & Poulenc'
The Budapest Spring Festival 2010 offers the opportunity to hear a Mass setting by Hungarian composer László Lajtha at St Michael's Church in the city center.
László Lajtha wrote this mass in 1950, at an extremely difficult time in his career as a composer. It was only much later that the title referring to the political situation – In Time of Tribulation (In diebus tribulationis) – became known. The powerful and moving masterpiece came to public attention in an excellent recording directed by Kálmán Záborszky.
Experience this exceptional Hungarian composition performed together with Poulenc's striking Stabat Mater by the Zugló Philharmonia and King Stephen Symphony Orchestra and Oratorio Choir in Budapest.
