These two composers stand for the Bohemian music tradition. Martinu - suffered from homesickness at his exile in America - was influenced by the neo-classicism after the war. He continued to use Czech folk melodies throughout his ouvre. He never saw his home country and died in Switzerland. He teached in America composition - among his students e. a. the later very popular composer Burt Bacharach. Dvorak's compositions are very popular at the concerthouses allover the world. Both composers had strong relations to America.

They carried the Bohemian musical spirit out and into the world and made it notable.
