ABOUT THE EVENT

Ludwig van Beethoven is a close friend of the Tonkünstler. In this concert, Christian Zacharias and the Tonkünstler present beloved and less frequently performed works by the great composer.

Maintaining this friendship is undoubtedly a particularly pleasant task for the orchestra. The connection with Beethoven has provided all lovers of music – both on the stage and in the audience – with countless pleasurable hours. So the idea presented itself to dedicate a concert evening to the titan, which went hand in hand with a plan to present less frequently performed works by the master. Christian Zacharias, guest-performing with the Tonkünstler as piano soloist and conductor, has selected a series of works by Beethoven to this end: the overture and other pieces from the fascinating ballet music about the "Geschöpfe des Prometheus" (Creatures of Prometheus) are followed by the brilliant 1st piano concerto. The second part provides the audience with a chance to listen again to the comparatively rarely heard, yet no less magnificent 4th Symphony.
