The Florentine Francesco Bartolomeo Conti was barely twenty when he was appointed as a theorbo player to the Habsburg court in Vienna in 1701.

He remained there until his death in 1732, becoming a leading composer of the time. Though his oeuvre has practically passed into oblivion, it comprises thirty operas, thirteen oratorios, and a long list of other vocal and instrumental works.

Gems - some long forgotten - from the baroque and classical operatic literature are René Jacobs’ trademark. "Don Chisciotte in Sierra Morena" is a fresh and scintillating tragicomedy, full of unexpected twists and turns, following the famous adventures of the Knight of the Rueful Countenance.
