Paul Moser, chief conductor since 1997, and his musicians particularly perform works of the two most famous Austrian composers: W.A. Mozart and Johann Strauss Son. The present leaders of this orchestra are renown violinists who are performing as soloists with leading orchestras of the world.
The Vienna Residence Orchestra, one of the best chamber orchestras of Vienna's music world, together with opera singers and ballet-dancers, takes you on a journey through time back to the days of Imperial Vienna with their rococo- and Biedermeier-costumes.
The Vienna Residence Orchestra, a Viennese chamber orchestra with a long tradition, was founded to perform the music of the "Wiener Klassik" in its purest form. The numerous concert series which this orchestra has performed in the last decades have taken place at some of the most beautiful palaces in Vienna. The program has consisted of works from Mozart to Johann Strauss, played from among 10 to 40 musicians. In 1991, the orchestra was appointed as the official representative of the City of Vienna in the festivities commemorating the bicentenary of Mozarts' death and has also performed a number of concerts at the "Vienna International Festival".
In 1992 the world renowned Rudolf Nurejev became the first guest conductor of the orchestra. Nureyev and the Vienna Residence Orchestra gained sensational success thoughout Europe. Outstanding international artists have performed as soloists with the Vienna Residence Orchestra: Rainer Küchl, leader of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Jochen Kowalski, the star counter tenor, conductors such as Arild Remmereit (now principal conductor of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra), Giuseppe Lanzetta, Herbert Roggenburg and many more. The Vienna Residence Orchestra has frequently been a guest orchestra at well-known major international festivals. Their international career has taken them to cities within Europe such as Paris, Berlin, Rome, Varese, Ravello, Deauville, Athens, Budapest, Brussels and also as far afield as Montevideo and Mexico. In Vienna they have performed repeately at the world famous "Musikverein" and also in Salzburg. Today the Vienna Residence Orchestra is one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world.
