Wagner celebrates the birth of his son; Mahler writes his musical testament in "Das Lied von der Erde", his final symphony in songs.

Schumann, for his part, opts for the highly original line-up of no fewer than four horns and orchestra - a rare opportunity for horn-players and for anyone who loves the pure sounds of Romanticism.
