演出简介

Baritone Matthias Goerne performs Schubert Lieder in the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.

“Sleep away your joy, sleep away your pain! The full moon climbs, the mist fades away.”  Perhaps the tragic love story of "Die schöne Müllerin" was no more than a dream. This is what Wilhelm Müller seems to be saying in this last poem. But not as far as Schubert was concerned: in autumn 1823 he composed not only one of the first, but above all one of the most impressive song cycles ever written. In the course of twenty songs, he holds the audience spellbound throughout the young wanderer’s quest - and its disastrous outcome.

Baritone Matthias Goerne is enjoying increasing acclaim as a lieder singer on international concert platforms: the warm timbre of his voice and heartfelt empathy make him the ideal performer of this superb cycle.
