演出简介

The Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society and its members will organise a symphonic music concert to commemorate their long-standing friend and colleague, a legendary cellist, who recorded the entire cello repertoire, the world-recognized musician Mstislav Rostropovich (1927–2007) with works by Brahms and Beethoven.

Not only a recognised musician, but also a staunch advocate of human rights he stood for Solzhenitsyn, and joined the fighters for Parliament during the Moscow Coup.  A recipient of the most coveted musical prizes – Grammy Award and Grand Prix du Disque, 30 honorary titles and over 90 awards from 25 countries, the Award of the International League of Human Rights and Schweizer’s Prize, Maestro had often dedicated his performer’s honorarium to charity: to earthquake-shaken Armenia, a children's hospital in Moscow. In 1991, together with his wife he established the Vishnevskaya and Rostropovich Charity and Support Foundation.

Rostropovich enjoyed a special friendship with Lithuanian musicians. He appeared with various Lithuanian collectives not only in Lithuania but also abroad. “I cherish everything that is related to Lithuania”, said the Maestro in a charitable concert in Spain in 1991 to support Lithuania’s independence.
