To celebrate International Dance Day, the Estonian National Opera presents a gala event at the opera house in Tallinn.

International Dance Day is celebrated on the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre - the French dancer and balletmaster. It aims to increase the awareness and importance of dance among the general public. Since 1985 it has been organised by the International Dance Council CID, a non-governmental organisation founded in 1973 within UNESCO.

Estonian National Ballet pays reverence to the International Dance Day giving a ballet gala with a programme ranging from classical ballet to contemporary dance.
