The London Symphony Orchestra presents works from Beethoven and Mahler with the internationally renowned pianist Emanuel Ax under the baton of Mahler expert Michael Tilson Thomas.
     
Michael Tilson Thomas is not only the director of the San Francisco Symphony but also a sought-after guest conductor all over the world. In Grafenegg, he will conduct the London Symphony Orchestra playing Gustav Mahler’s epochal First Symphony. Beethoven’s third piano concerto, interpreted by Tilson Thomas’ fellow US American Emanuel Ax, will serve to set the mood for Mahler on account of its determined basic attitude.

There’s a special feeling in the air when you step through the gates of Grafenegg to plunge into the open atmosphere of this Music Festival. Here is a fascinating combination of past and future, tangible in the contrast between the old castle and the modern open-air stage, Wolkenturm. On mild summer evenings, performances are in the open; in poor weather, the Auditorium opens its doors.
